With its 3,500 km of coastline and an exclusive maritime economic zone of 1.2 million km², Morocco has considerable maritime potential. The blue economy offers significant opportunities in terms of sustainable development, job creation and the development of marine resources.

Key sectors include fisheries, aquaculture, coastal tourism, marine renewable energy and maritime transport.

Morocco has launched a National Blue Economy Programme aimed at the sustainable development of marine and coastal areas. In June 2022, a partnership with the World Bank was established to finance the development of the blue economy, with a loan of $350 million.
